Genome Sequence of Porphyromonas gingivalis Strain A7436.
Porphyromonas gingivalis is strongly associated with periodontitis. P. gingivalis strain trafficking and tissue homing differ widely, even among presumptive closely related strains, such as W83 and A7436. Here, we present the genome sequence of A7436 with a single contig of 2,367,029 bp and a G+C content of 48.33%.

Porphyromonas gingivalis is associated with oral and systemic diseases. Strain-specific P. gingivalis invasion phenotypes have been correlated with disease presentation in infected laboratory animals. Here, we present the genome sequence of AJW4, a minimally invasive strain, with a single contig of 2,372,492 bp and a G+C content of 48.27%.

Editorial Periodontal diseases have long been associated with an increased, yet moderate, risk for the development of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. The postulated mechanism underlying this association is the low grade systemic inflammatory response to pathogens engaged in chronic periodontal infection, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, which may facilitate atheroma formation and t...
متن کاملPorphyromonas gingivalis: a clonal pathogen?
The introduction of multilocus sequence typing (MLST) in infectious disease research has allowed standardized typing of bacterial clones. Through multiple markers around the genome, it is possible to determine the sequence type (ST) of bacterial isolates to establish the population structure of a species. For the periodontal pathogen, Porphyromonas gingivalis, the MLST scheme has been establish...
متن کاملCharacterization of Porphyromonas gingivalis insertion sequence-like element ISPg5.
Porphyromonas gingivalis, a black-pigmented, gram-negative anaerobe, is found in periodontitis lesions, and its presence in subgingival plaque significantly increases the risk for periodontitis. In contrast to many bacterial pathogens, P. gingivalis strains display considerable variability, which is likely due to genetic exchange and intragenomic changes. To explore the latter possibility, we h...
